A cherry blossom is the name for the flower of cherry trees known as Sakura. Cherry blossoms are indigenous to many Asian states including Japan, Korea and China. Japan has a wide variety of cherry blossoms (Sakura); well over 200 cultivars can be found there.

Of all the flowers in Japan, the Sakura is so revered that there are sakura forecasts on television (indicated by the pink dots covering the map of Japan), in newspapers and on radio. The Sakura is believed to exemplify the transience and frailty of life.
